Riding outside in December!

Well Phoenix is still gimpy, hoping the farrier will be able to find something this monday, otherwise it will be vet time. With only one horse to ride it feels like I have way too much time on my hands. I had a lesson on Tuesday and Stampede jumped well while making his mean faces. Yesterday I didn’t really feel like doing a lesson so Stampy and I rode outside on December 1st in Michigan! This weather is so crazy, but it was awesome to ride outside. I focused mostly on keeping his attention and keeping him forward. On the flat he gets most angry when I ask for forward or bend with my leg, so I’ve been getting after him if he doesn’t move off my leg right away. If he would be more responsive than I could ask lighter and he could be less angry, or at least that’s my hope. I should add that Stampede gets more angry with spurs and slows down, so they are not an option, lol.

After working in the outdoor arena we went in the field to walk around and cool out. I remember quite well when Stampede would freak out when alone in the outdoor let alone going in the field. I’m so glad he has grown up in a few ways! Went out to eat grass afterwards so pony was happy. Phoenix’s dutch door was open and faces where I was grazing Stampy and he was making it known that he deserved to be eating grass too, so that’s what I did next.

Going to ride Stampede again today, then he can have Monday off. Really want Mr. P back in action though!

The cooler looks great! And your pads look super! I will definitely shop around. I love having my pads monogrammed. They don’t wander away that way.

I’m quite jealous of my friend’s cooler now and I even hate purple. I just have a smartblue cooler that both horses share. I may need an upgrade sometime….
I would love to put horse names on the pads, but it doesn’t make sense with two horses and P being of advanced age 🙁 I’ve never had issues with things wandering away, maybe because pretty much everything I have is too big for anyone else to use, lol. You may need to do some saddle pads with Huey or some other cute nickname of his on it. 🙂

I don’t have any with a name on them. Typically it is just my initials. A cute Huey pad is definitely something to think about though…
