The horse phase

Not sure if everyone has seen this already, but I saw it on pinterest the other day and thought it perfectly described me!

I had a good week with the furry boys. Monday Christie rode P with me and Stampy. We had a nice hack in the other outdoor ring. Stampy was only slightly spooky, much better than his first experience in that ring last year.

For my lesson Tuesday Stampede was attentive on the flat. We did a great hunter course again. Then something about the equitation course made me start going slow again and so I missed my distance to the in of a rollback. After that I got it back together and found my rythmn. Stampy was nice enough to not get angry when I screwed up, so that made things easier. I’m not sure the rest of the world can see it, but Stampede just feels better. He feels like he is finally comfortable in his own body and truly able to do what I ask of him. I just hope it lasts.

Wednesday I hacked alone on Mr P. I didn’t realize how hot it was until I got done and he was all sweaty and gross. I sometimes have a hard time getting used to his shorter stride if I haven’t been on him in a few days, so it was struggle between getting more stride from him and me riding the stride he has. We ended well with some canter work. His canter is just so cozy.

Thursday I had a nice flat on Stampy. We’ve been working on making sure his frame isn’t fake. He is very good at going long and low, but he’s not always pushing from behind. It’s much more work for both of us to get him using himself. I know for his back he needs to be moving correctly from behind.

Friday I got off work early but had to take the sickly Riles to the vet (don’t worry, he’s feeling better after some meds!). This made me later to riding than I wanted to be. Got to the barn and Christie, who I had told I was riding earlier, was about to get on. I hurried and got P ready for a quick bareback ride. It started lightly raining while we were trotting, but it wasn’t much and way better than going indoors. Christie went back to the barn with her horse, who is only trotting currently since he’s coming back from some time off now, and of course once she was safe it started raining harder. I was almost done so I just kept cantering in the rain. By the time I got done cantering I just went straight to the barn and cooled off in the aisle way. I was nice and soaked on the front of my legs and shoulders. Of course by the time I put P away and started taking care of Stampy the rain stopped so Stampy got to go out and graze for a few minutes.

Today I had a flat lesson with Stampy. We were in the other outdoor ring, the one I rode in Monday. He was still fairly distracted, but no major spooks so I can’t complain. Christie’s mom started leasing P one day a week, which started today, so he was already ridden and taken care of for the day when I got done with my lesson. Got out of the barn a little early for once (only two and half hours there, lol).

Oh, and I got a Dover credit card, which came in the mail this week. I got the custom one and have a picture of the boys on it. It came out really well.

I still need to figure out a girth for Stampede. I get torn because I really don’t want an all leather girth. The Thinline girth doesn’t look the same as the one I have any more, and the Equifit girth is super expensive. I need to pick something before he gets any fatter…

Dover credit card sounds dangerous. If they ever made a SmartPak credit card, I’d be in real trouble.
