Diapers, duct tape, a cone, hair in an envelope, and a broken zipper

It’s been a weird week. I think I will tackle my post by items above to mix it up a bit!

Diapers and duct tape – Well the roll I was on seems to have ended with one of my ponies. Mr Stampede seems to have acquired an abscess, and a lasting one at that. What started with a shuffly gate and a warm right front escalated at one point to three-legged and swollen legged sad pony. I have been hard at work medicating with previcox and wrapping his hoof with epsom salt poultice and a diaper all week. I never thought I would use so many diapers in my life!

He was nearing a normal looking walk yesterday, but getting bored otherwise. Hopefully he will be even further improved today. If so I will probably get on and just walk for a long time.

Tuesday night he said "mom my foot hurts and my leg is all puffy". This was after all of my wrapping.

The cone – Miss Juneau got spayed on Tuesday. She was the saddest puppy that evening, but after that took to terrorizing her sister with the cone. This worked until Roxy went into hiding…

Juneau was pouting because dad left to go somewhere here. Poor coned baby.

Hair in an envelope – mailed out P’s hair to SC Equine for my bracelet!

Hair!

Hair!

Broken zipper – My trusty barn coat of many years finally died. Any time I zip it the teeth just come apart. I hate coat shopping. So far I’ve been to three stores and didn’t find anything remotely good. Trying the tack shop today even though I didn’t want to pay the extra $$$ for a riding coat. Currently I’m rocking the husband’s old coat so I look like a hobo and have to take it off to ride because it is way too long.

On the Mr. P front, he continues to truck along like the trusty steed he is. I stole him back from Jessica yesterday and did a flat lesson. He was good of course!

And in other non-horse related news, Jessica made Reilly his own custom dog coat since he has the weirdest long skinny proportions ever. It turned out awesome! Now the other pups are jealous, hint hint.

So that’s the news here! Preparing for some more snow and cold and attempting to buy firewood which has so far proven impossible.

Poor stamp. Hope he blows the abcess soon and you guys can get back at it. As for barn coats I have a mountain horse that seriously will never die. I have had it for easily 8 years and it still washes up and looks new. It’s more of a shell with a fleece liner but still very warm. I would try a sporting goods store? 🙂

I need to try Dick’s or Cabela’s soon. The department stores and the tack shop were all fails. I really would like just a shell, I don’t like anything thick.

Abcesses are so annoying, hopefully it bursts soon!! I don’t even have an actual “winter coat” for the barn anymore and have just taken to layering a thousand things because I hate coats so much. Lately it’s been a long sleeve thermal, a fitted fleece, a Lands End vest that is probably my favorite “outerwear”, followed by my barn North Face. Ugh.

The coat that just broke was just a shell type thing that fit the need although I never liked it, lol. Yes, abscesses are the worst, argh.
