TOA Blog Hop: Shining Star

Shining Star
Let’s talk about the biggest achievements your horse has accomplished.  I’m not talking about you as a rider – I want to know what your ponykins has done to make you proud.  Is there a glorious satin collection, did he/she figure out some dressage movement that took months to learn, or are is it just a great day when your butt stays in the saddle?

Phoenix

Phoenix accomplished many great ribbons and year end awards with me in the hunter and equitation divisions back in our younger years. He also kept me from making a fool of myself in an Anne Kursinski clinic back then. The clinic was really challenging and included many exercises I had never done, but he stepped right up as usual.

One of the biggest things about Phoenix that always makes me proud is his general demeanor. Need a bomb proof pony to give little kids a ride – check. Want to ride a horse who is always happy to work and always waiting for your next request – check. Having a bad day and need a pony to cheer you up by making silly faces and putting up with extra hugs – check. Honestly, this horse is just so cool and such a rarity to find.

Stampede

Stampede’s ability to not over think a request and just do what I ask is one of my favorite things about him. While most horses get upset about being asked to counter canter through a corner and need to be really asked to hold the lead, he just trucks along until I ask for something else. Teaching him lead changes he never got anxious about it and learned them quickly. He’s the same way about everything with riding and that makes him really fun to ride.

I’m also very proud of his ribbon collection, although he has a long way to go to every match Phoenix! For a horse that used to run away with me when alone in the ring at horse shows, he is a different beast all together. I feel his back issues are the only thing that holds him back from being really competitive at this point. Well that and his mom’s riding ability being questionable at times, lol.

I love that both of yours were about the horses’ minds. I think that’s an often overlooked aspect of buying a horse and I’m glad you hit the jackpot with both your two! 🙂

Thanks. That’s why I don’t look forward to horse shopping again some day, so hard to find the right match!

I should have included on the bad pony one how Stampede threatens to eat me over wearing blankets and currying, lol. Overall they are very nice boys though!
