Inconsistent

Inconsistent is truly the theme when it comes to Stampede. One day he seems almost perfect, the next ride just trotting around without falling on his face or spooking every two seconds is almost impossible. The bad days seems to be getting further and further apart but there’s no doubt that they still exist.

We’ve continued to plug along and he’s definitely gotten much more fit after our extended period of trot only work.

Still room for improvement but he's a beefcake.

I wish I had taken pictures to track all of the changes his back has gone through because it’s pretty amazing. I hope to see more changes yet so I can at least compare those now.

We recently started cantering, beginning with just a half lap of the indoor each way. We are now up to roughly a lap and a half each way and I’m starting to feel him get his body more organized. The best part though is how nicely he trots afterwards. Cantering really seems to loosen him up, particularly to the left. This is different than prior times where cantering made him extremely sore. Hoping that’s a good sign!

The best part is we still have all winter to work harder and build up his back even further. We will see what the future holds for my favorite gigantic beast.

he’s looking good, glad to hear the cantering seems to be helping rather than hindering too! the ottb gelding i occasionally ride really needs a bit of canter to loosen up his back too
