Show Recap: Stoney Ridge B Finals

I’m a bit slow on the recap here! This is now three weeks out somehow.

My favorite photo from the weekend

Saturday we were pretty early on the schedule. Stampede warmed up crabby in the busy schooling ring so I was looking forward to getting in the show ring. Our first round was a warm up and the beast was a bit looky at the back of the ring since it was kind of foggy and we aren’t normally out there in the morning. The only other issue was when I tried to move up to a nothing distance at an oxer and forced the beast to kind of crawl over. Oops.

Came back in for my first hunter round and the beast was more relaxed. We fixed the distance to the oxer (woo hoo) and were headed to the last line when we had a strange scooting spook which we recovered from nicely but made the in to the line tight. We got 4th out of 9 for that round. The second hunter round was the same course as the warm up but then I biffed the same oxer again (Ugh!) after biffing at the single at the beginning of the round. Why must I move up to nothing! So then the beast was quite angry and the rest of our round was a bit rough. So 7th out of 9 in that round.

Sunday was a bit later in the day for our classes. He actually was less cranky in the schooling ring, things were much less crowded. The warm up round was okay, no huge mistakes but nothing special. We had one hunter over fences round after that and it was pretty similar. I just had a moving up to nothing problem all weekend and that led to some less than desirable distances. We got 6th out of 8, several of my friends put in really great rounds. Lastly we had a flat class. Stamp was just really lackluster in the flat class and I just couldn’t get him to move out like he can. We ended up 5th out of 7 in the flat.

So that finished up our year of showing and we ended up 6th in our division for the year. I really am still shocked we were able to make happen and ride in so many shows this year. Lots of careful management of my special beast got us through. Now on to a winter of flatwork to keep improving that back if we can! More on that soon!

I cannot get over the perfection of hunter braids! I don’t think I could ever make any look that neat. Sounds like you had a lot of highlights in your last show of the year!

Thanks! While 6th for the year doesn’t really look like much it was successful for me and the horse I have and I’m very proud of it.
