Now we Build!

I’ve been so busy I’ve been bad at sharing barn renovation progress on the blog! Not to worry my Instagram (@stampyandthebrain) gets regular progress pictures if you are on there. In case you haven’t been following along, here are updates 1 and 2 as well as me freaking out about making things safe for the boys. Also  here’s a link to one of my early planning posts and results of the votes in that post for fun reading.

When we left off the barn was finally empty! While emptying out the barn we made a scary discovery – the gutters had been leaking and had caused many of the structural posts to rot out at the bottom.

Before power washing and post repairs

So the barn got an interior bath

So fresh and so clean

Then some post repairs…

Not falling down now!

Lastly we added a lot of limestone screenings

Wide open spaces…

I may have had momentary dreams of this being a small indoor but not to worry the limestone was soon hard as a rock and the ponies still needed a place to live.

Next up, stall posts!

About to build something!

Last Friday after work I picked up some supplies

Big red is my favorite!

Saturday the hubs and I went crazy and got a ton done. We may have worked from 8 am to 10 pm with only food breaks and a quick take care of the ponies break…

We built two walls!

….and most of another set of walls!

Sunday we felt a bit sore and tired but we soldiered on from 8 to 5 before I headed off to the barn to ride Mr. P.

Stall fronts!

So that’s where we are now. Amazing what two people (seriously I owe my husband!) can build in a weekend with a little help here and there from some great people stopping by! (Thanks mom, dad, and Jess!) Now if I didn’t have to work so I could just keep working on it…

Thanks! Me too! I feel like there is so much yet to get done but putting in stalls definitely makes it feel real that the boys will be coming to live on our property.

All of it definitely has me on a roller coaster of emotions! Still hoping we can meet our deadline (end of May) and keep within some semblance of a budget…

Isn’t it amazing how much you can accomplish?? I felt the same way when my husband and I have tackled some big projects here. So exciting to see the barn shaping up and getting ready for the boys!

I’ve definitely been stepping outside my comfort zone in order to get things done and it’s been amazing what my husband and I have been able to do. It will be very cool when it all comes together.

It looks so great already! I can’t wait to see the finished product. And wow, that’s a lot of work to do on your own, kudos. Yeah, I said kudos.

Thanks, I’ll take those kudos, lol. It’s been really interesting challenging myself to do all of these things I’ve never done before. Couldn’t do it without my husband though!
