Ernie has certainly been reminding me of a few things I used to know, and honestly I’m having fun jumping for the first time in a while now. Ernie’s instructions to me have been very clear – do less. I had gotten to the point that I just didn’t realize how hard I was working with Maestro and how much I missed riding a sensitive horse who willingly moves forward.
Example 1) Lead changes. Ask lightly and not too early. Put your legs where they should be and ride a nice corner lady.
Example 2) Getting strides in the line. Get your pace in the corner and just let it flow. Don’t freak out and clamp with your legs lady.
Example 3) Distances. You better hold your core if you get long because lady we are going!
Example 4) Trotting after cantering. Control your hips to control the rhythm. I’m not a lazy pony and I anticipate what you might want next.(Side note this really reminds me of riding Mr. P <3)
I’m looking forward to building up more confidence jumping and hopefully there is a lot of fun ahead with Ernie over the next nine months. Still no in the saddle media to share. I will work on that since I’m off tomorrow through New Year’s Day.

He’s so cute in that hat! As much as kick rides are nice, I too like a more sensitive horse lol. It’s great that you’re having fun riding Ernie and that he is teaching you new things 🙂
I’m definitely not a kick ride person. I don’t need a rocket ship type of horse but i like to be able to ask for things without it being a chore.

His name has really grown on me, mostly because it does fit him.
ooooh, you’re gonna have so much fun with him! I am definitely a do-more rider, it’s hard for me to sit quietly. Good thing Cosmo is a do-more ride 🙂
